COLLINS LANDING The former head winemaker at Thousand Islands Winery has been charged with downloading proprietary business information, including formulas.
State police charged Craig A. Hosbach, 34, Clayton, with second-degree unlawful duplication of computer-related material, answerable in Orleans Town Court.
Police said Mr. Hosbach resigned from his job Nov. 30. Winery owner Stephen J. Conaway discovered later that day that someone may have downloaded files from the winerys computer system.
Security camera footage appeared to implicate Mr. Hosbach, police said.
Thousand Islands Winery in March was named 2012 business of the year by the Greater Watertown-North Country Chamber of Commerce for companies with 50 or fewer employees.
