C-P boys pull away to NAC East win over P-H


COLTON - The Colton-Pierrepont varsity boys basketball team steadily pulled away to a 57-15 NAC East Division win at home over Parishville-Hopkinton on Monday.

Brent Hoyt tallied 12 points and eight rebounds to anchor the winning effort as the Colts raced out to a 14-2 lead in the first quarter. Scott Boyce (7 steals) and Zach Farr chipped in 10 points each followed by Bruce Avery with eight. Gyle Dominy worked the paint for five points and nine rebounds and Ethan Knight contributed another six points.

Tanner Wilson paced the Panthers with six points. Mike Burns added four followed by Mike Cook with three and David Eames with two.

The lone other East Division game saw St. Regis Falls knock off Chateaugay 50-46 while a pair of Central Division matchups had Franklin Academy overpowering Salmon River 77-23 and Canton turning back Gouverneur 60-46. In interdivisional action, OFA outscored Norwood-Norfolk 85-24. The Central Division game pitting Potsdam at Massena was postponed.

SRF 50, Chateaugay 47: After withstanding the home-town team’s opening statement, the SRF boys used a solid defensive effort and clutch shooting in the end to remain unbeaten in the early going. Caleb Green nailed four 3-pointers and netted a game-high 24 points to keep the Saints unbeaten on the season. Corey LaBounty followed with nine points as Brandon Votra and Louis Goodrow, who was saddled with first-half foul trouble, both chipped in with six points. Noah Bowes led Chateaugay with 21 points as Devon Barnes added a double-double to the CCS cause. Barnes finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds and added five blocks to the Bulldogs’ effort.

FA 77, Salmon River 23: At Fort Covington, the visiting Huskies ran out to a 22-6 lead in the first quarter then outscored the Shamrocks 40-6 after halftime to remain unbeaten on the season at 5-0. Kody Mulverhill led the way offensivley with 16 points followed by Mitch Gallagher and Jon Dunlavey with 12 points each.

Kiio Jacobs paced the Shamrocks with 12 points. Josh Hynes added seven followed by Justin Bigness and David Dawson with two apiece.

Canton 60, Gouverneur 46: At Jerry Hourihan Gym, Bryant Wentworth fired through four three-pointers in lead the Bears with a 25-point night. Evan LaPoint added 12 points while Charles Ames chipped in another 11.

Devin Cox led Gouverneur with 15 points followed by Troy Gates with nine.

OFA 85, N-N 24: In Norfolk, the Blue Devils surged to a 46-11 lead by halftime as Collin Ross netted 16 points and Matt Piercey struck for another 14. Breton LaRose and Tyler Knowlton each added 13.

Garrett Waite paced the Flyers with seven points. Kyle Martens scored five followed by Dan Devine with four and Brandon Sawyer with three. Kyle Steenburg and Connor Pernice contributed two points each and Brett Barkley netted a free throw.


The three West Division games played on Monday saw Edwards-Knox down Heuvelton 58-52, Harrisville drop Morristown 59-50 and Hermon-DeKalb handle Clifton-Fine 73-43.
