Marie J. Bowen, 90, of Brushton, passed away Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012 at the Alice Hyde Nursing Home with family by her side. She was recovering from hip surgery. Funeral arrangements are with the Flint Funeral Home, Moira.
Marie was born July 30, 1922, the daughter of the late Vilas and Janet (Martin) Follett.
She graduated from Brushton High School in 1941, and worked briefly during WWII before becoming a lifetime homemaker. She enjoyed cooking, canning, gardening and being involved with her church. For several years she volunteered at the Brushton food pantry.
Surviving family members include her husband of 70 years, Gordon M. Bowen of Brushton; one son Daniel Bowen of Malone; two daughters and sons-in-law, Pauline and Steve Pierce of Henderson, Ky., and Marilyn and Frank Jakob of Brushton; four grandchildren, Nathan Bowen of Brushton , Jaclyn Bowen of Tupper Lake, Steven Pierce of Jeffersonville, Ind., and Kristan Love of Cairo, Ky.; four siblings, George (Arlie) Follett of Dickinson, Patricia Gale of Moira, Jane (William) French of Monticello, Fla., and John (Jane) Follett of Decatur, Ind.; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Marie was predeceased by one daughter Pamela Bowen; three sisters, Pauline Follett, Margaret Clark, and Nadine McKane; and three brothers Lemuel Follett, Gerald Follett, and Paul Follett.
Friends may call at the First Christian Church on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Maries funeral service will be held at 1p.m. with the Rev. Edwin Attaway presiding. Interment will commence in the Sunny Side Cemetery, Brushton, were she will be laid to rest.
Memorial donations may be made to the First Christian Church, The Brushton Fire Dept. or the Moira Fire and Rescue Squad.
