Cougars drop Bulldogs to stay unbeaten; H-D wins

RUSSELL - Edwards-Knox’s first year head Coach Bill Davison guided his Cougars to a 3-0 NAC West League start on Monday with a 58-52 come-from-behind win over Heuvelton in boys basketball.

Hermon-DeKalb supplied its second straight league win downing Clifton-Fine 73-43 improving to 2-1 in league, 2-2 overall. Harrisville denied Morristown 59-50 improving to 2-1 in league and 4-1 overall.

In NAC East play, St, Regis Falls posted its first win over Chateaugay in several years, 50-47 while Colton-Pierrepont denied Parishville-Hopkinton 57-15.

E-K 58, Heuvelton 52: Employing a full court press in the fourth quarter, the Cougars used a 24-14 advantage to deny Heuvelton.

“Our first three games against Harrisville, Lisbon and Heuvelton were big and we came out 3-0. But you can’t take anyone lightly in the West. Hammond played right with Lisbon,” said E-K Coach Bill Davison.

Kaden Dandrow scored nine of his 22 points in the fourth quarter and Chris Davison provided 10 of his 17 in the turnabout.“I really thought our defense did the job in the fourth and wore them down,” Davison noted.

Jessie Bullock added eight and Tyler Tresidder chipped in seven for the win. Cody Holland scored 19 points for Heuvelton and Dedrick Johnson and Mike Guardino each added 11.

H-D 73, C-F 43: The Demons used a 28-8 second quarter to take control over the Eagles as Macauley Snell scored 24 points and Cody Merritt tallied 21 points to pace the winners. Nate Weaver tallied 15 points with eight rebounds and Tim Fowler netted 15 points to lead the Pirartes. Nick Weir added seven points and Justin Hartle scored eight with both players grabbing six rebounds.

St. Regis 50, Chat 47: The Saints (4-0, 2-0 NAC East) continued their flying start with a tenacious defense effort in the second half. “We had a chance to win it in the end. We got the shot off at the buzzer, but it just missed,” explained Chateaugay assistant coach Jason LaPlante. “(SRF’s Caleb) Green was clutch down the stretch. He hit a big basket inside the last minute and made two huge free throws with under 10 seconds remaining. He is a big-time player and Justin (SRF Coach Todd) has done a real good job with that team.”

Green nailed four 3-pointers and netted a game-high 24 points. Noah Bowes led Chateaugay with 21 points and Devon Barnes finished with 12 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks.
