Davis nails 3-point basket at buzzer to propel Demons over Eagles

DEKALB JUNCTION — Clarissa Davis made a 3-point basket as time expired to give the Hermon-DeKalb girls basketball team a 59-57 win over Clifton-Fine in a Northern Athletic Conference West Division game on Tuesday.

Clifton-Fine (1-2 overall and division) had taken a 57-56 lead with 3.5 seconds left when Alexis Pomerville put in an offensive rebound, was fouled and made a free throw.

Bridget Rust led the Demons (4-1, 2-1) with 23 points and five rebounds.

Davis scored 17 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Hunter Hitchman led the Eagles with 22 points.

Morgan Skeldon scored 15 and Pomerville finished with 14.

HEUVELTON 49, EDWARDS-KNOX 20

Logan Tallman, Alexis Weidner and Ashlyn Piercey each scored eight points to lead the Bulldogs (3-1, 3-0) past Edwards-Knox in a West Division game in Heuvelton. Makayla Bartocha scored nine points for the Cougars (0-5, 0-3).

HARRISVILLE 71, MORRISTOWN 16

Kathleen Coloney scored 21 points to send Harrisville past the Green Rockets (0-5, 0-3) in a West Division contest in Morristown.

Chelsea Pierce added 20 points for Harrisville (1-0).

TUPPER LAKE 38, ST. LAWRENCE 35

Katie Stuart produced a 22-point game to lead the Lumberjacks (3-2, 2-0) in a North Division game in Tupper Lake. Breanna Vatter scored 14 points for the Larries (1-2, 1-1).

CANTON 70, GOUVERNEUR 37

Emma Rexford made 20 of 23 free throws and finished with 38 points as Canton defeated the Wildcats (2-3, 0-3) in a Central Division game in Gouverneur. Jaime DiSalvo and Kali Frank both scored nine points for Canton (4-0, 3-0) and Kirstin Robert led Gouverneur with nine points.

MASSENA 59, POTSDAM 48

Alisha Jacobs tallied 26 points as Massena (3-2, 1-1) defeated the Sandstoners in a Central Division game in Potsdam. Marissa Manley tossed in 10 points for Massena.

Shanielle Chambers led Potsdam (0-3, 0-2) with 15 points and Breanna Sapp added 13 with Taylor Bonnor producing 10.

SALMON RIVER 46, MALONE 41

Salmon River fell behind the Huskies 20-4 early in the game and then rallied to earn a Central Division victory in Malone.

Taylor Francis scored 14 points for the Shamrocks (3-1, 2-1) and Abby Kelly added 11.

Morgan Fountain led Malone (2-2, 1-2) with 12 points and Janelle Heden scored 10.

HOCKEY

POTSDAM 5, SALMON RIVER 4 (OT)

Josh Locey scored an overtime goal as the Sandstoners (3-0, 1-0) overcame a 4-1 deficit to defeat Salmon River in a Division I game in Fort Covington.

Logan Ford scored two goals in the third period for Potsdam and assisted on the game-winner. Carson Green and Jason Cardinal also scored for Potsdam.

Kyle Lewis, Skylar Thomas, Nate Cole and Ronnie Boots scored for the Shamrocks (1-2, 0-1).

MALONE 2, NORTHEASTERN CLINTON 1

Shawn Mulverhill scored with 60 seconds left to give the Huskies (3-0) a win over host Northeastern Clinton in a nonleague game.

Tanner Studlack scored at 6 minutes, 16 seconds of the third period to tie the game for Malone.

Reese Tucker scored a first-period goal for Northeastern Clinton.
