While the fourth-grade pupils at Ohio Elementary School in the Watertown City School District were not around in 1998 to know anything about the great ice storm that year, they are still eager to join the We Remember campaign to help Hurricane Sandy victims in Nassau County on Long Island.
Their teacher, Amy J. Briggs, contacted We Remember co-chairman David C. Shampine to reveal her class wants to do something for a fourth-grade class in a stricken area.
The proposal was made by her students, not herself, Mrs. Briggs said.
She was placed in contact with Long Beach Fire Chief Rick Corbett, who said four school districts in his region have been merged into two because of storm damage. He promised to make a connection for her.
