Ogdensburg Festival of Trees enjoyed new location despite declining revenue

The ninth annual Festival of Trees held on Dec. 1 at the Oddfellows Hall raised roughly $46,000 for the Claxton Hepburn Medical Center Auxiliary.

Bonita A. Wright, co-chair of the event, said the festival was well attended with 1,300 people filtering through during day and 500 people attending the night-time auction.

“It was a new venue,” said Ms. Wright.

Formerly the festival was held at the Armory on Elizabeth Street.

“We were very pleased with the fact that we had a parking lot, that we had a kitchen and that we were wheelchair accessible,” said Ms. Wright of the amenities the Oddfellows hall provided.

Because of how accessible this year’s venue was, senior citizens were able to visit during the day and those in wheelchairs or using walkers were able to maneuver more easily.

“Everyone enjoyed it immensely,” said Ms. Wright.

Last year’s event, that featured 61 Christmas trees, brought in $49,000.

Ms. Wright said the decrease in the event’s intake had to do with the increased cost of the new location as well as the decline in Christmas trees for auction.

This year saw 50 trees up for grabs.

Ms. Wright said planning for the 2013 Festival of Trees will begin in August.

“We thank people for coming and supporting us for everything we do during the year,” she said.

The event was sponsored by Pepsi-Cola Ogdensburg Bottlers, Northern New York Newspapers, 96.7 YES FM, QCountry 102.9, PAC 98.7.
