The depth of Northern Conference Division II hockey was well-illustrated on Wednesday night by two interdivisional games involving neighboring schools. St. Lawrence gained its first win over Division I Massena since 2004 in a 3-2 decision and first year Division I team Salmon River needed a goal late in regulation to gain a 3-3 with Malone.
OFA travels to Salmon River tonight and hosts Malone on Friday.
SLC 3 - Massena 2: Lukas Arquiett scored two goals in the second period for the Larries (1-1 NAC). St. Lawrence Central took a 1-0 lead late in the first period off a goal from Nate Stickney.
The Red Raiders (4-3, 2-1) answered with a goal from Tyler Sims just 1 minute, 49 seconds into the second period to tie the game 1-1.
Then Arquiett took over, scoring at 2:09 and 14:00 of the second period for a 3-1 advantage.Massena cut the lead to one with a shorthanded goal in the third period from Patrick Manning.
SR 3 - Malone 3: Kyle Lewis scored with 29 seconds left in the third period to give the Shamrocks (0-1-1) a tie. Malone (4-0-1, 3-0-1) trailed 2-1 after the second period, but used goals from Tanner Studlack and Bailey Conklin in the third period to take a 3-2 lead.
Cameron Daniels scored in the first period for Malone.Kyle Green and Jarid Gray also scored for the Shamrocks.
Joe Brown stopped 25 shots for Malone and Bero of SR fielded 20 saves.
