CANTON - Blake Orosz and Nikki Holmes scored unassisted in the final six minutes of the third period to earn the Canton Girls Hockey team an overtime repreive in Wednesdays high scoring nonleague game with Saranac Lake which featured six goals in the second period.
The Lady Bears rally was denied, howver, as Jordy MacDougall netted a power play goal from Danielle Patraw 4:46 into overtime to give the Red Storm their first win of the season.
Orosz delivered tow hosalds and two assists to lead Canton (4-4) and fellow Madrid-Waddington student Taylor Marcellus netted a pair of goals.
Sidney Battistone generated three goals and one assist for the Storm which erased a 2-1 Canton lead by scoring three straight goals in the second period. Kay Stephenson and Ashley Rodee also scored for the winners who received 22 saves from Katie Snyder.
Nikki Holmes tallied one goal with one assist and Margret Troiano passed out an assist for the Bears who received eight saves from Elizabeth Burke.
It was a nonleague game so we played five lines and nine defensemen tonight. It was a good game and we outshot them 27-14, said Canton Coach Anita Francis.
In other girls hockey action on Wednesday Potsdam blanked Alexandria Bay 5-0 and Massena turned back St. Lawrence Central 2-0.
