This photo was part of a feature in the Times’ Farm and Garden supplement of Dec. 13, 1947. It shows Bernard J. Shangraw of Rodman hauling freshly cut Christmas trees on this ‘snowmobile,’ which the caption explains was ‘built from a standard auto chassis and easily traverses snow several feet in depth.’ The trees were taken from a 300-acre plantation near Rodman owned by Earl D. Gardiner of 143 Bishop St., Watertown. The snowmobile was also built by Mr. Gardiner.
