BARNES CORNERS Some pre-Christmas snowfall may be enough to attract snowmobilers to the Tug Hill region, but much more will be needed before trail grooming can begin.
The Barnes Corners area received 4 to 5 inches of snow during the day on Friday, with more continuing to fall into the evening, according to Gary R. Stinson, president of the Lewis County Snowmobile Association and the Barnes Corners Sno-Pals snowmobile club.
However, no grooming will likely take place unless snow continues to fall over the next couple of days and temperatures drop well below the freezing mark, Mr. Stinson said.
The week of Christmas and New Years is historically the busiest week of the year for Tug Hill businesses that cater to snowmobilers, assuming there is sufficient snow.
