Dec. 27, 2002: It takes only 20 seconds to kill a baby.That’s how long the shaking lasts in most cases of shaken-baby syndrome, a term that describes serious injuries that can result when an infant or toddler is severely or violently shaken. An effort to prevent north country infants from falling victim to shaken-baby syndrome is being launched by the North Country Prenatal/Perinatal Council.The nonprofit Watertown agency has been working to reach parents and caregivers through a large-scale educational campaign at hospitals in Jefferson, St. Lawrence and Lewis counties.
