SPCA to run winter spay and neuter clinics

OGDENSBURG — The St. Lawrence Valley Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is hoping to get donors onboard to help them fund three spay and neuter clinics for cats this winter.

“We are always in need of money,” SPCA President Karen L. Cunningham said.

The three clinics will take place on Jan. 24, Feb. 14 and Mar. 21.

Ms. Cunningham said the goal is to reduce the number of stray and feral cats who suffer without the proper care.

“Spaying and neutering is the only solution for the overpopulation problem,” Ms. Cunningham said. “For every human baby that’s born [in the United States of America] there are 15 puppies and 45 kittens born.”

Anyone interested in making an appointment for the clinics should call Spay and Neuter Now at 486-0094 or 629-8651.

In the effort to raise money to help fund the spay and neuter campaign, the SPCA has initiated the Critter Giver 500 Club.

“We’re looking for 500 people to donate $10 a month,” Ms. Cunningham said.

The money goes to the campaign and to helping the SPCA continue its mission of helping area animals.

“It helps us with our day to day costs at the shelter,” Ms. Cunningham said.

The SPCA also runs spay and neuter clinics during the summer. Ms. Cunningham said she would like to build an operating facility where they can spay and neuter dogs as well. Currently their facilities only allow them to operate on cats.
