St. Lawrence County Legislator Jonathan S. Putney, D-Waddington, was chosen at a Democratic caucus Thursday for nomination to become the chairman of the Board of Legislators in 2013.

Mr. Putney is in his third year on the board.

Democrats nominated Legislator Donald A. Peck, R-Gouverneur, for vice chairman.

Mr. Peck changed his party registration from Republican to Democrat in November but it does not become effective until after the general election in 2013. Mr. Peck is in his seventh year on the board after serving for a number of years as Gouverneur supervisor.

With Mr. Peck’s switch, Democrats have a 9-6 majority. Legislators will choose a chairman and vice chairman at their organizational meeting Wednesday.
