A fallen soldier memorial in the hamlet of Omar apparently has been stolen and community members are seeking clues to its whereabouts.

Omar resident Timothy J. Hall said the memorial — which he made in 2008 with a Kevlar military helmet, an M-16 BB gun, boots and a black dog tag that read “The Fallen Soldier” — was last seen on New Year’s Eve.

“In the summer, people would stop and pray at the memorial,” he said, adding that the symbol of sacrifice means a lot to him and the community.

Mr. Hall first noticed the memorial, which was placed in the center of the hamlet, missing Tuesday.

Already, several residents have come forward and donated material to replace the memorial, but Mr. Hall still wants whoever took it to return it to where it belongs.

“The last picture we took of our daughter — she died in 2008 — was with the gun and helmet used for the memorial,” Mr. Hall said.

Mr. Hall and his girlfriend, Lisa Schryver Ericzon, lost their daughter, Jessica F. Ericzon, who died at the age of 17. Ms. Ericzon has blamed the Gardasil vaccine for the girl’s untimely and unexplained death.

The helmet’s most distinguishing feature is two holes drilled on top. Also, the BB gun’s barrel is rusted and there are two holes in the butt of its stock.

State troopers have been made aware of the incident, Ms. Ericzon said. Mr. Hall is asking anyone with information to contact him via email at oneless@hughes.net.
