Burke man admits to felony drug sale charge

MALONE - A Burke man admitted to a felony drug sale charge in county court on Thursday.

Michael Lewis, 35, pleaded to one count of third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance. He is scheduled to be sentenced on March 11.

Officials said when he was arrested last month that Lewis sold $100 worth of cocaine to a confidential informant on March 26, 2012.

A grand jury handed up an indictment on Nov. 14 that accused him of the criminal sale charge, plus an additional count of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Lewis could potentially face a mandatory sentence of one to nine years in prison as a second felony offender. According to the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (NYSDOCCS), Lewis was paroled from the Willard drug treatment facility on Oct. 9, after serving four months of a two-to-six-year sentence for felony driving while intoxicated.

In other county court business before Judge Robert G. Main Jr. on Thursday, a Fort Covington woman pleaded guilty to drunk driving.

Amy Bingham, 43, pleaded guilty to one count of felony driving while intoxicated. She admitted that she drove with a blood alcohol level above .08 percent on July 4.

A grand jury indicted her on the charge on Dec. 6, plus an additional felony of operating a motor vehicle with blood alcohol level above .08 percent.
