The Potsdam Central and Massena Central girls hockey teams skated to wins at their home rinks on Friday.
Potsdam 5, Oswego 1: At Pine Street Arena, the Lady Sandstoners broke open a close game with five straight goals in a span of just under nine minutes in the second period.
Kalie Grant netted a pair of goals along with Jordan Emerson while Megan Plumb added a singleton to lead the way offensively. Megan Stevenson, Ally Miller, Kady Hart and Jenny Tardelli each logged solo assists.
Ashley Pitters scored a power play goal assisted by Hannah Croteau to account for the lone Oswego goal with 9:30 left in regulation.
Allie Compeau made 13 saves through the first two periods and Sidney Molnar stopped a shot in the third in sharing crease duties for Potsdam. Whalen had 28 stops in the losing cause.
Now 9-2 overall, the Lady Sandstoners return to action on Wednesday on the road against Canton Central at the Canton Pavilion starting at 4:15 p.m.
Massena 2, Canton 1: At the Massena Arena, the host Lady avenged a season-opening loss to the Lady Bears.
Katie MacCuaig opened the scoring just 3:58 into the game assisted by Raechel Davis and Mackenzie Young. Carlie Leary struck for the eventual game-winner with 19 seconds left in the middle frame assisted by MacCuaig and Davis.
Canton got on the board at 5:44 of the third period when Blake Orosz broke through for an unassisted goal.
Maddi Dillabough made 22 saves working the crease for the win as the Lady Raiders improved to 8-4 overall and 3-2 in their division. Elizabeth Burke handle 28 shots for Canton.
The Lady Raiders return to action this morning when they host Lake Placid starting at 11:45 a.m.
