OFA Girls Gain Key Win At SR


FORT COVINGTON - OFA Coach Lynn Blevins was quick and to the point after his Blue Devils (8-2, 5-1 NAC Central) squeezed out a 50-49 win at Salmon River on Friday evening in NAC Central Division action.

“This game could have gone in either direction. Salmon River is well coached and we match up with them very well. It’s was just to bad the clock ran out because this was just a great game,” said Blevins after his Devils prevailed on a night when SR’s Abby Kelly joined the NAC 1000-Point Club by scoring 28 points including four threes and eight of nine free-throw shooting. Her 1000th point came on a three and she joined her mother Jocelyn Furnia Kelly (1140 points) as a mother-daughter 1000 career point scoring duo. Kelly (5 rebounds, 4 assists) hit two of three free throws with 1.5 left on the clock to cut the deficit to one-point. The Devils fell behind 24-20 at halftime took a 40-39 lead after three in the back and fourth game.

“We had to battle. Our rebounding was well balanced and scoring too,” said Blevins after Riley Luckie (4 assists) and Meg Dodge (5 rebounds) each scored 12 points, Suzie Morrow logged eight points and five rebounds. Shannon Tooley scored four points and posted six rebounds and four steals and Felicia Barr added seven points and seven boards. Courtney Sherwin added six points and five boards for the Devils who will host another key division game on Monday against Canton.

Jaiden Mitchell scored seven and Zaagate Jock and Taylor Francis (four assists, four rebounds) added six and five for the Shamrocks who slid to 6-2 overall, 2-2 in NAC Central play. Kwio King grabbed 10 rebounds.

In junior varsity play, OFA won 47-42.

SLC 71, St. Regis Falls 23: Breanna Vatter tossed 15 points, Sam Richards added 10 points and Noelle Rufa, Abbey Taylor, and Lindsey Thayer each tallied eight for the Larries (4-5, 3-2), who opened the first quarter with a 26-8 lead and led 49-14 at halftime. Brittany Rondeau scored 14 for St. Regis (0-6, 0-5).

Tupper Lake 48, P-H 30: Katie Stuart tossed through 30 points, including three threes for TL. Brianna Hayes and Kodi Perkins scored eight points apiece for P-H.

B-M 36, N-N 25: Sienna Kenny netted nine points and Jenna Dufrane added eight for B-M. Carlea Weaver scored 10 points for N-N.
