New owner plans few changes to Riverside Acres Campground in Clayton

CLAYTON — Riverside Acres Campground & Cottages on Route 12E will reopen this spring under new ownership.

John Phillips, who recently purchased the business, said he wants to make minor renovations to the facilities.

“We plan on fixing it up a little. We want to make it a friendly campground,” he said.

In general, he said, not a whole lot will change; he would rather keep the rental costs down than spend a lot of money on extensive renovations.

Mr. Phillips, of Springville, Pa., said he has lived in the area as a seasonal resident for the past 20 years and decided Clayton would be a nice place to retire and run a small business in his free time.

He closed on the property Dec. 21.

The 13.37-acre site was sold for $350,000 by Gerald and Marilyn Kelly, Clayton, who had owned the business since 2003, according to Jefferson County property records.

Riverside Acres, which will be open from May 4 through Oct. 20, has several amenities, including an outdoor swimming pool, playground, game room and boat storage in addition to heated cottages and seasonal sites for camping.
