Lately there has been a lot of articles both for and against gun control due to the Connecticut shooting. I have to admit as a firearms owner and hunter I don’t fully know what currently exists for federal, state and local laws concerning owning a fire arm or anything associated with them.

I was wondering if the Times would publish some articles on the subject of gun ownership? After seeing letters such as Tony Salerno’s and reading various other comments in other publications by others leads me to believe nobody has very many facts.

Mr. Salerno’s letter states that we are all about to lose our right to bear arms. I believe the Supreme Court has already affirmed this right. If I’m not mistaken, Mr. Salerno is an outdoorsman, hunter and writer.

David Martini Sr. said in his letter that Gov. Andrew Cuomo is firearms ignorant. Again if I’m not mistaken, I read where he owns a firearm, and seeing how I haven’t read about him shooting himself, he evidently knows which way to point it. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

Then the Times had an article about a shooting that occurred inside a police station in a Philadelphia suburb. Seems a civilian employee of the New Jersey Department of Corrections was arrested for stalking a former girlfriend. He managed to knockdown an officer while being processed and got the officer’s gun and wounded at least two officers before being killed.

Again I’m pretty sure the police department didn’t have any signs up about a gun-free zone. This was a police station with I would imagine well-trained officers who still ended up in an encounter with a shooter firing on them first.

As for Edward Barlow’s letter about banning all weapons of war, good luck. I read an online article in something called the Huffington Post that says the National Rifle Association is going to fight the U.S. agreeing to a United Nations arms treaty. Talk about a big ego! I’m a little hesitant to join an organization that wants to take on the world.

It’s one thing to pay some in our Congress to tell them how to vote, (I mean look how well they’ve done on common sense and the ability to think for themselves already), but now you figure you can run foreign affairs!
