CHATEAUGAY – The Salmon River girls varsity basketball team rallied from a two-point halftime deficit and outscored the host Chateaugay 33-22 in the second half to hand the Lady Bulldogs their first loss of the 2012-13 season.

With the 52-43 victory, the Lady Shamrocks move to 8-2 on the season while Chateaugay drops to 4-1.

Salmon River’s Abby Kelly scored 14 of her game-high 21 points during the second-half rally as Taylor Francis tossed in her second 3-pointer of the contest to help defeat the host Bulldogs.

Francis and Aliyah Cook both added nine-point games to the Shamrock victory while Jaiden Mitchell and Kwiio King chipped in with seven and six points, respectively.

Playing without three players, the lady Bulldogs gave it a solid effort, especially on the defensive end of the floor, according to CCS coach Chris Reynolds.

“We played great defense, but senseless turnovers in crucial minutes and then not getting back on defense and giving up uncontested layups proved to be costly,” stated the Chateaugay coach.

Only four players found the range to get into the scoring column for CCS (4-1), led by Courtney Boyea’s 17 points. Katie Beach followed with 12 points as Makayla Fleury (16 rebounds) and Abby Barnes rounded out the Bulldog scoring with eight and six points, respectively.

“Katie Beach gave us some awesome minutes in our starting point guard spot with the absence of Hannah Cook,” added Reynolds.
