CARTHAGE — The Carthage-Wilna Fire District will hold a public hearing from 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 26 at the fire station, 685 S. James St., to obtain input on the proposed purchase of a new fire engine/pumper.

The board of commissioners has agreed to accept a truck bid from KME Fire Apparatus for the purchase of a pumper for $459,990. If the board goes through with the purchase, financing would be obtained through a combination of issuance of a serial bond or statutory installment bond up to 10 years for the maximum amount of $475,000 principal and/or by using reserve funds in the maximum amount of $130,000 and issuing bond anticipation notes for up to five consecutive years.

The board also decided to purchase crash-recovery software at a cost of $700 a year and to transfer a portion of the cost from the training budget. The software aids in the use of a hydraulic rescue tool, commonly called “jaws of life,” informing firefighters where it is safe to cut on various makes and models in order to avoid air bags or the vehicle’s electronic system. In the past, the district has shared the software with other departments, which has become problematic when software updates are needed.

Joan Draper was appointed election chairwoman and Tracey Sears and Judy New were appointed ballot clerks. Each will be paid $35. The commissioners also decided monthly meetings will be at 4:30 p.m. the last Wednesday.
