Deterrents to crimes need to be stronger

Of all of the killings in our nation’s wars has it been the fault of the gun or rifle? No, it was the individual behind the weapons.

Our Founding Fathers, when they put forth the Second Amendment, did not envision the gun culture of today, nor did they set forth laws to restrict or downsize.

Someone once said that if a bullet has your name on it, you’re dead. I have never seen a bullet with a name on it, but I have seen a lot of idiots behind a gun or rifle and wondered how.

The deterrents for the commission of a violent crime with a gun, rifle or knife do not have any teeth. Punishment should fit the crime. Prisons are no deterrents, because society has turned them into country clubs. Where in society do you receive three meals a day, a place to sleep, all medical bills paid by the taxpayer, with conjugal visits and in most cases all the comforts of home?

By taking the guns out of the honest law-abiding citizens’ hands nothing is gained. Criminals will always have a gun should the need arise.

Stop plea bargains for lesser charges just to avoid the death penalty. People like this cannot be rehabilitated.

Society needs to rethink their deterrents for the person behind the gun, rifle and knife, not the gun. Guns do not kill people, people do.
