Marlene Boyer Donahue of Scotia was called home on January 13, 2013 to a warm reunion with departed family and friends at the age of 81. She was at home surrounded by family.
Marlene graduated from St Marys Academy in Ogdensburg New York. She joined the New York telephone company as an operator in Ogdensburg. Later at Sampson Air Force Base in Geneva she became vocalist for the Air Force Orchestra. While there she went often to NYC where she made guest appearances with Frankie Carl, the Dorsey Brothers and Mitch Miller. She sang on nation wide radio with Vincent Lopez and his Orchestra from the Hotel Taft.
In 1956 she married Charles Donahue in Syracuse. They began their family in Batavia, later moving to Massena. In 1967 they moved to Charlton and raised their children and spent many happy summers at their cottage on Galway Lake. Marlene worked at the Carl Co. store in Mayfair. She also made many friends servicing her flourishing Avon Products route. In 1983 she and Chuck relocated form Glenville to Bristel Tn. Where they enjoyed 6 full years. In 1989 she and Chuck took their last transfer to Glens Falls where they retired in 1992. They became snow-birds residing in their Port Charlotte Florida condo until 2008. In 2009 they moved to Glenville to be closer to their children.
Marlene is survived by Chuck her husband of 56 years. Her daughters Patricia Donahue (Rob Carlson) Joanne (Jack) Simpson. Her son Thomas (Linda) Donahue. Her grandchildren Maddie, Abby and Haley Donahue. And Brian, Katie Simpson. She is also survived by two sisters Georgia McLane and Diane Galluzzo. Also many nieces and nephews.
The Funeral service will be private. The family thanks the wonderful staff of Schenectady Hospice for their flawless support. Arrangements are by the Townley & Wheeler Funeral Home Ballston Lake, N.Y.
