Massena Alt Ed students showcasing art at Remington

MASSENA - Four of Massena Central’s Alternative Education students will display their art work at the 16th annual Middle School and High School Art Exhibit at the Frederic Remington Art Museum in Ogdensburg.

Art teacher Linda Nowak submitted the students’ art work for the exhibit.

“I have putting student work into the Remington exhibit for about 10 years. I try to choose different students each time because it’s a great opportunity for the student to show off their work. Their artwork is on display at the museum and online and I think it’s great exposure for the student and our school,” she said.

The Frederic Remington Art Exhibit runs from Saturday through Feb. 23.

The following pieces are on display:

“The Room” by Dalton Bailey, 7th grade

“I chose this piece because of a project we did a while ago – we had to do a room in a house using one point perspective. I put a lot of work into this piece. Art is my best subject, you can draw whatever you want – and it’s something I enjoy doing on my free time. My sister has influenced me to be an artist because she is a good drawer – she’s taught me the art of sketching.”

“City” by Haiden Farley, 7th grade

“I have never actually been in a big city before, so when I chose this piece I drew what I thought one would look like using one-point perspective. When I was little, I used to draw little stick figures in my notepad – and have been interested in art ever since – I just like to draw. My two sisters and my mom have influenced me to be an artist too.”

“Fall Basket” by Mackenzie Bailey, 11th grade

“I chose this piece because it was around Thanksgiving time and I thought of doing a fall basket. Ms. Nowak and I I got leaves from outside – I traced out the leaves so I could get the detail of the leaves and put them on the basket. My old baby sitter got me interested in art. She drew more animated people, and I’d try to copy her, I still have all the drawings that she drew. But Ms. Nowak has influenced me to be an artist the most. She was my 6th grade art teacher and my interest just starts from there. “

“Nicky’s Fishy” by Maryann Binan, 10th grade

“We started a project called ‘big art’ and I chose to make a fish. I cut out a large piece of foam, painted, paper Mache, and sparkled it. My father is a tattoo artist and he’s really got me interested in art – he draws all the time.”
