GLENFIELD State police on Tuesday filed three charges against a resident here to close an investigation into an accident in which four people were injured Aug. 17 in the town of New Bremen.
Ryan J. Gibbs, 20, is cited with driving while under the influence of drugs, endangering the welfare of a child and making a false written statement.
Police said Mr. Gibbs was driving a pickup on Erie Canal Road prior to 11 that night when the truck overturned. Two people were ejected, police said.
Troopers found Mr. Gibbs and Travis J. Waldron, 21, Glenfield, injured at the scene, and they were flown to Upstate Medical University, Syracuse. Police were told there were no other passengers, but the next day, Angela Schwendy, 16, Brantingham, arrived at Lewis County General Hospital, Lowville, to be treated for injuries she admitted suffering in the accident.
A fourth passenger also was revealed, Bridget L. Pellam, 17, Belleville, police said. The two girls had managed to get a ride from the accident scene prior to the arrival of a patrol, police said.
The false-written-statement charge stems from Mr. Gibbss failure to report he had the two girls as passengers, police said.
