CANTON Sophomore defenseman Nelson Armstrong has left the St. Lawrence University mens hockey team and the school.
The 19-year-old Armstrong left St. Lawrence because he wanted to devote his entire time to playing hockey, according to St. Lawrence head coach Greg Carvel.
Armstrong has signed with and will join his hometown Peterborough Petes of the Ontario Hockey League.
Appearing in 18 games this season with the Saints, Armstrong totaled three assists and four penalty minutes and compiled a minus-two plus/minus rating.
Before coming to St. Lawrence as a freshman in 2011, Armstrong played for two seasons with the Peterborough Stars of the Ontario Junior Hockey League.
