WEST CARTHAGE The village board on Monday appointed Robert J. Bookser and Mary Britton to five-year terms on the West Carthage Housing Authority board of directors.
It also discussed the possibility of reducing the authoritys payment in lieu of taxes from 5 percent to 1.5 percent of the basic rent or $3,000, whichever is lower. Mayor Scott M. Burto said the authority has been paying $6,300.
The original PILOT deal from 1987 referred to unspecified state law that must be researched before the board may act.
We want to move forward with a number that would not increase the rent for the seniors in the housing units, Mr. Burto said.
Contracts to provide fire protection in the towns of Denmark, for $7,250, and Champion, for $20,400, were approved.
The board also set a public hearing on overriding the states cap of 2 percent on property tax increases for 6 p.m. Jan. 28 at the municipal building, 61 High St.
