HASTINGS A Pulaski woman making a 911 call to report car trouble was killed Wednesday night when her broken-down sedan was slammed by another vehicle in the center northbound lane of Interstate 81 at the Onondaga and Oswego county line, according to state police.
Liberty A. Tanner, 19, of 1064 Albion Cross Road, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 10:23 p.m. crash.
Three other people were injured in the multivehicle accident and were taken to Upstate Medical University, Syracuse.
Police said Ms. Tanners 1996 Dodge Neon was in a driving lane without any lighting when it was struck in the rear by a Buick Century driven by Alex B. Mills, 17, Altmar. Another motorist, Michael R. Edinger, 17, Parish, slowed down as he approached the accident scene, and his auto was struck in the rear by a Chevy Cobalt driven by Emily Smith, 20, Pulaski, police said. The Cobalt was then struck by a Nissan driven by Stefanie Wooding, 28, Fulton, police said.
State police did not disclose which three were taken to the hospital, although a trooper said he believed Mr. Mills and Mr. Edinger were among the three. They were not admitted to the hospital, a nursing supervisor said Thursday night.
The northbound lane was closed for several hours. State police are continuing the investigation.
