SYRACUSE — New Syracuse University football head coach Scott Shafer announced the appointment of several assistants Thursday, including the hiring of George McDonald to run the offense.

McDonald resigned as receivers coach from the University of Arkansas after just four months on the job to take the SU position. He was receivers coach for the University of Miami in 2011 and 2012. Before Miami, he was receivers coach for the NFL’s Cleveland Browns for two seasons. McDonald is known for his recruiting, ranking as one of the top 25 recruiters in the country last season by rivals.com

Shafer also named Tim Lester as SU’s quarterback coach. Lester was the head coach for five seasons at Elmhurst College where the Bluejays completed their most successful season last year, going 10-2. Lester was a record-setting quarterback for Western Michigan and graduated in 2000.

SU announced that wide receivers coach Rob Moore and defensive line coach Tim Daoust will return for next season in their same capacities. Moore will be entering his fourth season as SU coach and Daoust his third.
