Bulldogs knock off unbeaten Cougars in NAC West Division showdown

The Northern Conference will not have an unbeaten boys basketball team in 2012-13 campaign.

Chateaugay took care of business on Wednesday evening over St. Regis Falls in the NAC East. OFA did the deed on Tuesday night stopping Malone in the Central Division.

On Friday evening on the 84 foot long court at Heuvelton, the host Bulldogs ended Edwards-Knox’s NAC West run in a 58-54 decision.

“The difference was we kept our composure. Edwards-Knox led by nine in the first half, we chipped away. In the second half, we had a little better success offensively got up by five or six but every time Edwards-Knox came back. It was just a good battle. I’m just very pleased with our team’s effort,” said Heuvelton coach Josh McAllister.

Kaden Dandrow, a very athletic and well skilled basketball player, hit two three’s for E-K (9-1 West) to keep the game close in the fourth when Heuvelton had opportunities to pull away late. Dandrow finished with 20 points while Nick Davison and Tyler Tresidder each added 10.

Dedrick Johnson and Cody Holland each nailed two threes in 18 point-point efforts for Heuvelton (7-3 West) which fell behind 25-16 early in the second quarter but cut the deficit to 30-29 at halftime. Mike Guardino added 16 while Reilly Pierce added four.

“Our bench was a little short tonight but we got some good defensive minutes from Jon Sloan, Aaron Cobb, Chris Power, and Reilly Pierce. Riley Pierce had a big duece in the fourth,” said McAllister who plays St. Regis Falls today at SUNY Canton at 7 p.m.

Chris Davison and Jesse Bullock each scored five for E-K.

In the JV game, Edwards-Knox won 41-34 as Dustin Randall scored 20 points and Trent White added 10. Andrew Streeter, Mike Martin and Cole Piercey all scored six for Heuvelton.

Harrisville (8-2) downed improving Morristown (3-7) 60-56 and Hermon-DeKalb (3-7) tripped up Clifton-Fine (2-8) 54-42 in NAC West Division action.

Hammond reversed a setback to Colton-Pierrepont earlier this season with a 35-21 decision in an interdivision game.

Tupper Lake used a fourth quarter comeback for a NAC North 49-42 win over Madrid-Waddington.

Harrisville 60, Morristown 56: Starting the game with six players and finishing with four, the Rockets gave the Pirates everything they could handle.

Nathan Weaver generated 20 points to pace the Pirates. Nick Weir added 16 while Joey Butts and Jared Dreythaler chipped in eight.

Ryan Vollmer supplied three threes in a 17 point effort for Morristown. Devin Dulmage added 15 while Dakota Marshall added eight and Bobby Simmons and Zach Kanaly each logged seven.

H-D 54, C-F 42: A 17-9 third quarter advantage broke open a 23-19 halftime lead for the Demons who received 19 points on 9-13 free shooting from Macaulay Snell and 14 points and 13 rebounds from Zach Robinson. Steve Gilbert added 11 points while Jaron Robinson added seven.

Matt Russell scored 14 for the Eagles. Jordan Planty added nine while Logan Hayes chipped in eight.

Hammond 35, C-P 21: Darin Bresett worked the paint scoring 18 points and Nolan Martin and Ryan Proven each scored six for the Devils.

Gyle Dominy tallied nine points for Colton-Pierrepont.

Tupper Lake 49, M-W 42: Tupper Lake used a 18-9 fourth quarter comeback to downed M-W which played tenaciously according to Coach Aaron Jones.

“We played very tough and very hard. We starting to put the pieces together,” said Jones.

“Richard Wright gave us another solid game. Terry Crump did a great job on Mitch Keniston defensively holding him to nine points and Dillon Putney did a good job on the boards off the bench. We just have to play a little smarter defensively and stay out of foul trouble.”

Anson Gagnier, Brock Tarbox, and Keniston ll scored nine points for Tupper Lake. Cody LaPierre added eight while Nash Botola added seven.

Wright delivered 16 points with three threes for M-W. Maurice Rease added 13 while Crump tallied rebounds boards, five steals and four points. Putney chipped in five boards and three points while Greg Thompson chipped in five boards and two points. Jacob Barney and Zach Brock each scored two.

Chateaugay 60, B-M 49: Noah Bowes scored 24 points and Devon Barnes added 11 for Chateaugay which sealed the win with a 21-11 fourth quarter. Adam Martin scored 16 for B-M and Taylor Tallman added 12.

Gouv. 57, Canton 56: Seth Carr’s off balanced 12 footer at the buzzer fell as the Wildcats surived at home. Mark Horne generated 16 points for Gouverneur. Anthony Way added 13 while Carr chipped in eight.

Bryant Wentworth scored 19 points for Canton while Evan LaPoint added 18 and Eddie Bortnick chipped in eight.

Malone 85, Salmon River 27: Austin LaMay scored 13 points and Harvey Smith, Alex Johnson, and Bruce Monette each scored 10 for the Huskies. Josh Hynes scored 15 for Salmon River.

Massena 44, Potsdam 43: Despite a 27 point effort from Owen Mitchell, the Stoners were denied by Massena which the Raiders took a 27-21 lead at halftime with a 22-8 second quarter run. Zack Rusaw scored 19 points for Massena. Joey LaBelle added 14 while Xavier Viskovitch chipped in nine.
