OGDENSBURG Undeveloped St. Lawrence River waterfront in the town of Oswegatchie is for sale and being touted as a prime site for housing.
A 27.16-acre parcel of United Helpers-owned land on Route 68 with 1,605 feet of river frontage and 1,670 feet of road frontage is for sale for $1.3 million, according to Bruyere Chadwick Realty, the firm handling the sale.
Realtor Allison B. Chadwick said Monday that she wants to sell the lot as a single parcel, ideally to a developer who then will subdivide the property and build single-family or condominium housing.
Mrs. Chadwick called the site virgin property that was ideal for development.
There is a tremendous amount of waterfront, she said Monday. Its always salable, but it (the value) does go up and down with the market.
The property is just west of the Ogdensburg city line. It is included in the Ogdensburg City School District and can be connected to city water lines that serve the United Helpers RiverLedge campus across Route 68.
The property also contains the former Pythian Beach, once a popular public swimming site. Two years ago, the Greater Ogdensburg Chamber of Commerce considered it when examining the possibility of opening a public beach along the river.
United Helpers has owned the property since 1974.
