FORT DRUM — The post’s Atkins Functional Fitness Center was featured in a post from Men’s Health magazine.

The post is part of a series from the magazine identifying fitness tips from across the military.

The $2 million facility is the highlight of more than $10 million in spending for renovated and new fitness options across the post. On Jan. 9, it was named for Staff Sgt. Travis W. Atkins, who posthumously received a Distinguished Service Cross in 2008 for tackling and pinning a suicide bomber who approached his unit in Iraq in 2007, saving the lives of three other soldiers.
