H.T. Wiley Intermediate students will have their pool back by the end of this month.
The pump is finally repaired after about a month of work. However, Watertown City School District Superintendent Terry N. Fralick said the pool takes a while to heat to the appropriate temperature, 82 degrees. As of Monday afternoon, the pool was at 80 degrees.
We expect it to be a couple more days before its 82 degrees, he said.
The closure of the pool has disrupted physical education classes and left the Downtown YMCA scrambling to rearrange schedules. The Watertown Family Y has used the schools pool because there is more parking space and the pool is bigger, making it more accommodating for lessons.
Fifth- and sixth-grade physical education classes have been using alternative activities, Mr. Fralick said in a previous interview, and were not using the high school pool.
