Dixie Lee chicken restaurant serving breakfast


One year after closing down, re-opening and renovating under new ownership, a long-established Ogdensburg restaurant will expand its hours of business and menu to accommodate serving breakfast.

Dixie Lee Fried Chicken, 432 State St., on Friday will begin serving breakfast seven days a week from 5:30 to 10:30 a.m. The lunch/dinner hours will continue to be 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

“We have always been a breakfast family,” said manager Pamela M. Thayer, who with her husband, Michael, bought the restaurant from Moe Dulsrud, of Ontario, a year ago.

The restaurant, part of the Canadian-based Dixie Lee organization, has been in Ogdensburg since the 1970s. Mrs. Thayer has worked there since 2001.

Mrs. Thayer said Monday that she and her husband have toyed with the idea of a breakfast menu and heard customers’ requests for it.

They ran the idea by Mr. Dulsrud, who continues to advise the couple.

“He thought it was a great idea,” she said. “So if its OK with him, it’s OK with me.”

The breakfast menu will offer familiar morning meal fare such as egg, toast and coffee specials, omelets, pancakes, waffles, cereals, juices and side dishes.

The Thayers last year embellished the Dixie Lee menu with sandwiches and wraps. With breakfast coming on board later this week, Mrs. Thayer said the restaurant might just adopt an old mystery of life as its new slogan.

“What comes first, the chicken or the egg?” she said.
