MASSENA - Local artists still have a chance to be a part of the largest art event of the year in Massena.
The submission period closes Friday for the Massena Artists Associations 28th annual Juried Art Exhibit, which is open to anyone living within 100 miles of Massena, including Canadian artists and students at local colleges residing in the area only when school is in session.
We welcome submissions from anybody whod like to submit. Were looking forward to a good show with as many local artists as we can find whod like to submit, association President Dorothy Badger said.
To submit, one will have to print and fill out a form from the associations website massenaartists.blogspot.com, and deliver the form with the accompanied artwork to the Massena Public Library. Artists are limited to two entries each, and must include a $15 entry fee with their submission.
Artwork may either be mailed to the library or hand-delivered between 1 and 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31; or 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1.
A reception displaying the chosen artwork will be held 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12 at the Massena Public Library, 41 Glenn St. There will be an award ceremony for the top submissions at 7 p.m.
The exhibit will run until March 1.
Ms. Badger said each year the show receives around 100 submissions spanning a variety of mediums, including oil paintings, pastels, photography, sculptures, multi-media and more. And while many submissions come from established local artists, the show also brings out a lot of new artists each year, Ms. Badger said.
Each year we meet new people who have great work (who) weve just never met before, she said. Its a great chance to introduce new people to the association.
