DWI - HOLMES HILL - St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department deputies charged Christy L. Demers, 45, of Nichols Road, Winthrop, with driving while intoxicated following a one-vehicle property damage accident early Friday on Route 11 at County Route 47 in the town of Stockholm.

Deputies said Demers was operating a 1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue when she failed to stop at a stop sign at the end of County Route 47 where it intersects with Route 11. She crossed Route 11 and struck a tree.

Following their investigation, deputies charged Demers with driving while intoxicated and ticketed her for failure to stop at a stop sign. She reportedly had a blood alcohol content of 0.09 percent. A blood alcohol content of 0.08 percent constitutes a DWI in New York state. She was released on an appearance ticket for Stockholm Town Court.

Deputies were assisted at the accident scene by Brasher-Winthrop and West Stockholm volunteer firefighters and Tri-Town Rescue.
