CLARIFICATION:A claim in the following article that Reflexions Hair Salon is the only full-service salon in the village is incorrect. Absolutely Everything, 27 Union St., is also a full-service salon.

By AMANDA PURCELL

HEUVELTON – Owners of Reflexions Hair Salon are hoping their salon’s new location at 25 Water St. will offer a “brighter, warmer” atmosphere to customers.

Owners Betsy A. Willard and Brandi I. Simmons said Thursday that Reflexions has outgrown its 64 Rensselaer St. location.

The property is for sale, represented by Bruyere Chadwick Realty, Ogdensburg.

“There is not enough room and we are hoping to give our new nail technician more space to work,” Ms. Willard said.

With the help of a private contractor, the business owners have been working since December to convert the two-story apartment building into a full-service salon, complete with manicure and pedicure stations.

They plan to open the salon at its new location by mid-March.

“People are surprised we are doing much of the work ourselves,” Ms. Simmons said. “It’s a lot of hours, but it will be worth it in the end.”

Ms. Willard and Ms. Simmons are hoping the larger space, complete with a waiting area, coffee station and large picture window with view of the waterfall, will offer a “better experience” for their customers. There will also be a front porch and color bar for customers to view hair color options.

“Of course we always want to increase the amount of customers, but our main priority is making sure our customers are comfortable,” Ms. Simmons said.

“There will be plenty of nooks and crannies for people to have privacy, as well as a big open space for people who want to socialize,” Ms. Simmons said. “We want to make it convenient for everyone.”

Ms. Simmons said she hopes the new location, just off Main Street and adjacent to Pickens Hall, will “increase visibility” to walk-in customers shopping in the area.

“We frequently get questions from customers about what’s available in town,” Ms. Simmons said. “People will also have more access to the shops in the area. The new place will pull us closer to other businesses, and businesses closer to our customers. Many people have commented that it would be nice to see that area spruced up and brought back to life.”

The only full-service salon in the village, Reflexions serves customers from Lisbon, Gouverneur, Canton, and Ogdensburg, Ms. Williard said. The salon offers services for men, women and children. Services include eye lash extension, cuts, colors, highlighting, and perms.

Business hours will continue to be 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday by appointment or walk-in.

“So many customers have dropped in to see our progress with the new salon and have said they are excited to have a little more room,” said Ms. Simmons. “We’re so glad to have the continued support of our community.”
