DEKALB JUNCTION - The Hammond Girls Basketball team used a well-earned 44-39 victory over host Hermon-DeKalb on Thursday evening to come within one game of cliniching a share of the NAC West Division title.

The Lady Devils (14-1, 11-0) pulled out the victory at the foulline after leading 24-23 after three quartrers.

Alyssa Crosby went 11 of 12 at the foulline in the fourth quarter and 18-for-23 in the contest finishing with 27 points for Hammond. Courtney Bova added 10 while Gabby Marshall hit two threes for six points.

“Alyssa (Crosby) just took over the game in the fourth quarter. And she did it playing the interior. But we grew up alot today. We improved since our first meeting with them and we hung in playing good defense. We missed a few box-outs at the end that we needed and that gave them second opportunities,” said H-D coach Steve Morrill.

Clarisa Davis and Courtney Harrington each scored nine points for Hermon-DeKalb (8-7, 6-6 NAC West). Kasey O’Donnell and Bridget Rust added scored six. The Demons went 7-18 at the foulline as a team.

“Every team takes pride in playing in their own gyms, and we have to rise to that occasion,” said Hammond coach Shawn Dack after his tough contest at Hermon-DeKalb.

“We certainly didn’t overlook Hermon-Dekalb. We don’t overlook anyone. But we have to play more determined in what we want to accomplish. Especially on offense, we settled for to much tonight, but credit Hermon-DeKalb for that as well. But we adjusted and got out of there with a win. Now we refocus for Harrisville on Monday.”

High winds and lake effect snow warnings cancelled the rest of the NAC West schedule which included a key matchup with second place Heuvelton hosting Clifton-Fine, Morristown traveling to Edwards-Knox and Harrisville hosting Lisbon.
