OFA, N-N tie at tournament


CLAYTON - The third hockey meeting of the season between OFA and Norwood-Norfolk produced a 2-2 tie, on Friday night, in the first round of the Islanders Tournament. The Devils, who are the defending champions of the tournament, came away with 2.5 points to the Icemen’s 1.5 pounds heading into Saturday’s matches where OFA plays John Jay (1 p.m.) followed by the Islanders against Norwood-Norfolk.

John Jay downed the Islanders 4-2 on Friday while NAC action saw Massena hand Potsdam 3-0 loss in a match of NAC Division leaders who play again tonight at 7:45 p.m.

Friday’s nonleague game between OFA and N-N saw the Devils take a 1-0 lead out of the first period where Jake Garrison scored from Burke Comeau. The Icemen answered with a pair of Cody Smith goals off assists from Brandon Short and Tristan Harvey and the Devils created the 2-2 tie on goal by Zach Barr from Jon Tayler just 38 seconds into the third period.

OFA goalie Dave Prudhomme handled 30 shots on the night while a trio of of N-N goalies Kyler McIntyre (8), Ryan Thomas (4) and Ben Gushlaw (11) combined for 23 saves.

“It was a very good hockey game. Our defensemen: Dave Middlemiss, Burke Comeau, Joe Giglio and Gian Rufa all played very well,” said OFA Coach Jon Frederick after the tie which followed losses of 1-0 and 2-1 against N-N NAC play.

“They (Norwood-Norfolk) always fight very hard. If we end up playing in the semi-finals of the sectionals it should be one heck of a game. We will need a complete game tomorrow against John Jay.”

Massena 3 - Potsdam 0: The line of Patrick Manning, Ryan Moffitt and Dalton Mullin produced the offense as the Raiders overcame 36 dsaves by Potsdam’s Devin Crary.
