CLAYTON - Scoring a single goal in every period, John Jay High School downed OFA 3-1 to claim top honors in the Islanders Hockey Tournament on Saturday.

Norwood-Norfolk downed the Islanders 4-1 in the second game of the day. Jon Tayler scored at 7:28 of the third period, off assists from Zach Barr and Drew Costigan, to cut the John Jay lead to 2-1 but Jack Grimm netted an insurance goal with just 1:27 to play.

“We got off to a slow start then I thought we took it too them in the second period. But we just couldn’t put the puck in the net,” said OFA Coach Jon Frederick after John Jay overcame 36 saves by Blue Devil netminder Dave Prudhomme.

“This was our fourth game in a very busy week and I think we got a little tired.”

Connor Moore and Shawn Smith also scored for the winners who received 29 saves from Matt Lanzara.

Norwood-Norfolk 4, Islanders 1: Brandon Short provided one goal and one assist while Zeb Brown, Troy Kovach and Austin Cousineau each scored once. Brandon Richards made 19 saves for N-N (9-7-1, 7-5-0). Evan Dier scored for the Islanders (5-11-2, 2-10-1).
