Frontier League roundup: Carthage, Indian River make final

Zakiya Saunders tallied 19 points, 15 rebounds and five steals to help fuel top-seeded Carthage over No. 4 Immaculate Heart Central, 49-25, in a Frontier League “A” Division semifinal girls basketball game Monday at Jefferson Community College.

Lexi Smith posted 12 points, three rebounds and three steals, and Kendra Bates added 10 points and six rebounds for Carthage (11-6 overall), which will meet No. 2 Indian River in the finals at noon on Saturday.

Anna Garrabrant scored seven points for Immaculate Heart (2-15).

INDIAN RIVER 51, WATERTOWN 29

Ashlynn Borce finished with 14 points and four steals as the No. 2 Warriors beat the No. 3 Cyclones during an “A” Division semifinal at Jefferson Community College.

Kammikia Barnes scored 14 points, and Katie Brierton had eight points and six rebounds. Sarah Mattingly added five assists for Indian River (12-5).

Katie Aldrich supplied 14 points and 12 rebounds for Watertown (4-11).

BOYS BASKETBALL

SACKETS HARBOR 51, LYME 42

Josh Keruski connected for 16 points to help guide the Patriots to a Frontier League “D” Division victory at Chaumont.

Lyme, which earned the regular-season title, defeated Sackets Harbor, 56-25, during their first game on Dec. 28.

Colton Belcher put up 13 points and pulled down 19 rebounds, and Ryan Allen finished with 10 points, six rebounds and four assists for the Patriots (11-5, 10-5), who trailed by six points early in the fourth quarter and ended the game on a 19-4 run.

Troy Wilson accounted for 13 points, 12 rebounds and six assists, and Zach Backus provided 10 points and nine rebounds for the Indians (12-4, 11-4).

APW 69, CAMDEN 56

Aaron Marshall scored 15 points as the Rebels jumped out to a big early lead during a nonleague victory in Parish.

Ben Butler and Sage Bartlett added 12 points apiece for Altmar-Parish-Williamstown (7-10), which scored 29 points in the first quarter.

Ryan McCarthy scored a game-high 23 points for Camden (7-9).

HOCKEY

RFA 5, IHC 0

Zach Olivas and Cameron Mecca supplied a goal and assist apiece as Rome Free Academy (16-2, 12-0) won a Section 3 Division 1 East game at the Watertown Municipal Arena.

Grant Chamberlain made 34 saves for Immaculate Heart Central (3-13-1, 2-10-1).
