Potsdam surged past Canton while Massena fell short to Franklin Academy in the two NAC Central Division varsity boys basketball games Tuesday night.
Potsdam 84, Canton 41: At Jerry Hourihan Gym, the visiting Sandstoners (11-5, 6-5) steadily pulled away from the start as they built a 27-9 lead by the end of the first quarter where junior center Shawn Clark connected for nine of his game-high 17 points. Will Coleman added 14 points followed by Konnor Bigwarfe with 13, Owen Mitchell with 11 and Duquan Pitts with 10. Dan Stone contributed another five points toward the winning effort. Jacob Bryant and Tom Hobbs each finished with four while Jake Mitchell and Travis Stephenson closed out the balanced Potsdam scoresheet with three apiece.
Evan LaPoint led Canton (5-11, 3-8) with 12 points. Bryant Wentworth chipped in nine followed by Charles Ames with eight. Eddie Bortnick and Nick Archibald netted four points each. Francesco Palumbo and Scott Wight both finished with two.
The Sandstoners close out the regular season on Friday at home against Central Division rival Gouverneur starting with the JV contest at 5:30 p.m.
FA 75, Massena 61: In Malone, the visiting Raiders worked their way to a 39-38 halftime lead before the Huskies took control of the game with a 19-5 third-quarter run.
Tyler Haas led the Massena offense with 17 points followed by Zack Rusaw with 14, Xavier Viskovich with 12, Zevon Viskovich with six, Rhoades Tarbell with five, Robert Cameron with four and Joey LaBelle with three.
Jon Dunlavey paced FA (16-1, 11-1) with 15 points. Nate Monette struck for another 14 followed by Harvey Smith with 13 and Austin Lamay with 10. Connor Dailey and Mitchell Gallagher each finished with eight.
The Raiders (9-8, 6-5) close out the regular season at home on Friday against Salmon River before gearing up to take on the Huskies in the Section 10 Class A championship game on Monday, February 18, at SUNY Potsdams Jerry Welsh Gym.
In the only North Division contest on Tuesday, Madrid-Waddington outscored St. Lawrence Central 58-54.
The Yellowjackets worked their way to a 16-11 lead by the end of the first quarter then stretched their lead to 28-16 at the half before the Larries battled back to outscore them 38-30 after the break.
Greg Thompson anchored a balanced M-W offense with 18 points. Colin OBryan chipped in 10 followed by Maurice Rease with nine, Richard Wright with seven, Zach Brock with six and Jacob Barney with four. Terry Crump and T.J. Gagnon closed out the Yellowjackets (11-6, 5-3) scoring with two points each
In the regular season finale for the Larries (8-10, 4-4), Zane Ramsdell tossed through a game-high 23 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. Jessi Greer contributed 10 points followed by Cody Meacham, who netted eight points and blocked six shots. Josh White (9 rebounds, 8 assists) and Shane Fuentes finished with six points apiece while Tyler Savage tallied a free throw.
The Larries will now look to begin defending their Section 10 Class C title starting with a semi-final round game on Friday, February 15.
The lone interdivisional game Tuesday saw Tupper Lake outlast Colton-Pierrepont 43-34.
Mitch Keniston scored 12 and Cody LaPierre added 11 to lift the Lumberjacks (10-5) past the host Colts (7-10).
Gyle Dominy tallied 12 points while Zach Farr added 11 and Scott Boyce scored seven for C-P.
In the West Division games played Tuesday, Edwards-Knox clinched the regular season banner with an 80-34 win over Hermon-DeKalb, Lisbon halted Heuvelton 59-38, Harrisville handled Hammond 59-35 and Morristown doubled Clifton-Fine 58-29.
