OGDENSBURG The search for a new executive director for the Frederic Remington Art Museum may begin later this month.
Julie H. Cliff, a trustee and the search committee chairwoman, said Monday that a 30-day multimedia advertising campaign to recruit a replacement for Edward A. LaVarnway is scheduled to begin March 1.
But if a six-member committee consisting of representatives from the museums board of trustees, its international advisory board and museum curator Laura A. Foster manage to agree on a job description and the scope of the advertising campaign, It could be sooner than that, Mrs. Cliff said.
Mr. LaVarnway, executive director since 2005, wants to leave by June 1 but has agreed to stay until his replacement is hired and familiarized with the job.
Ed has been very gracious to help us have a smooth transition, Mrs. Cliff said.
The Museum Trustee Association, Washington, D.C., will advise the Remington trustees on how best to carry out the recruitment process, Mrs. Cliff said.
Other search committee members are board President William J. Cavanaugh, Vice President Kathleen R. Wade, Secretary Dianne Drayse Alonzo, international advisory board member and noted museum supporter Alan P. Newell and trustees Catherine B. Newell and Scott M. Wright.
The museum is at 303 Washington St.
