RENSSELAER FALLS - The Rensselaer Falls Fire and Rescue Squad will not be removing or unlocking its gate outside its property along the Oswegatchie River beside the County Route 14 bridge. Standing at just over an acre, department uses the property to fill up its pumper trucks. The gate was put in place to prevent vehicles from blocking the entrance, Chief Jeff S. Hammond said.
But because residents did not come forward at the fire departments meeting Wednesday, the board decided to keep the gate locked.
I dont see the point in changing something that isnt broken, Mr. Hammond said. We will be more than happy to address these concerns as they come up, but for right now we will leave it the way it is.
Residents are still allowed to access the land, so long as they enter the 4 feet of space on either side of the gate, Mr. Hammond said.
