PLESSIS One man was rescued from a fire that severely damaged his single-wide trailer and made difficult work for several fire companies in frigid weather Saturday night.
The unidentified man, the lone occupant of the home at 44012 County Route 2, was taken to River Hospital, Alexandria Bay. The hospital would not disclose any information about his condition.
The Plessis Volunteer Fire Department responded to the call about 6:30 p.m., and was joined by several additional departments, ambulance companies and state police, according to Joseph D. Plummer, Jefferson County director of fire and emergency management.
Weve got a lot of tankers here, Mr. Plummer said. Were in a very rural situation, no fire hydrants, so were having to truck water into the scene. Its extremely cold here so were having some problems with things freezing up. ... The cold is an awful lot of fatigue on the firefighters so were having to rotate firefighters in and out as well.
The cause was undetermined, he said.
