Blockbuster in Watertown has stopped renting DVDs and video games, and will now stay open to try to sell them all before it closes April 7.

The pending closure marks the end of a 19-year run for the store at 1240 Arsenal St., whose 10 part-time employees will lose their jobs. The store will stay open regular business hours until it closes, hosting a total liquidation sale for all of its inventory.

Used movies are now priced at $9.99 or less at the store, and video games are being sold anywhere from 10-to-30 percent off the used price. Games are sold for the Playstation 3, Wii and Xbox 360 video game consoles. Prices will continue to be chopped as the date of closure approaches.

The closure is a part of Dish Network Corp.’s plan to close 300 Blockbuster stores nationwide this year. Some 3,000 Blockbuster employees will lose employment.

“A lot of my customers are having a really hard time with this,” said Tammy L. Gregory, who’s been the store manager for five years. “It’s a very sad day for us. All of the customers here have been very loyal and helped us stay in business this long.”

Blockbuster’s announcement comes after the store closed 500 stores across the country last year.
