Schwerzmann & Wise law firm to move to Watertown’s north side

Schwerzmann & Wise P.C. announced Thursday that it plans to move its Watertown law offices from the Agricultural Insurance Co. building, 215 Washington St., to the former site of the DealMaker Auto Group’s headquarters at 137 Main Ave.

Keith B. Caughlin, the firm’s managing shareholder, said the move will take place at the end of this month, with the new office opening March 4.

“This is an exciting change for our firm and our clients, as we move to a new suite of offices,” Mr. Caughlin said in a statement. “We have seen retail development west of the city, medical and professional development south of the city, but we are very pleased to bring our professional services to the north side of Watertown.”

The location is owned by Toped Development LLC, Alexandria Bay, whose managing member is P.J. Simao. The three-story building was formerly used as office space for Niagara Mohawk Power Corp., now known as National Grid, until the company consolidated its operations at its Rices Road location. Toped also owns the DealMaker Conference Center nearby.

“The location has excellent access and visibility next to the conference center and a prominent cell tower,” Mr. Caughlin said. “We think we are expanding the downtown professional presence.”

In addition to Mr. Caughlin, the shareholders of the law firm are Dennis G. Whelpley, Steven C. Haas and Catherine Burns Quencer, as well as Anderson Wise, who is chairman of its board. Associates are George E. Mead, Lucy M. Gerviss and Anne E. Phillips. The firm, established in 1985, is a general practice firm serving individual, corporate and municipal clients in Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence counties.
