WADDINGTON The Waddington Volunteer Fire Department will hold a car wash from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at the fire station in an effort to raise $1,000 for new equipment.
Members hope to purchase some new turnout gear pants and coats with an average cost of about $2,500.
We can only use them for five years for interior and 10 years for outside of the building,Fire Chief Jimmy F. Armstrong said.
While the main object has always been to raise money, over the years the car washes have also proven to be a great way to meet community members, Mr. Armstrong said.
We would love to have everyone come in and say hello in a setting that is not an emergency situation, he said. Generally when we see people, it is usually on the worst day of their life. Its nice to meet members of the community in a little more relaxed atmosphere.
