LOWVILLE Lewis County earlier this month foreclosed on 50 tax-delinquent parcels, the fewest since 2010.
The county foreclosed on 65 properties in 2012, selling 33 at the annual tax auction, with 52 taken in 2011 and 47 in 2010.
Property owners still may redeem their parcels through mid-May, keeping them from being included in the county tax auction, by paying all taxes and fees and any delinquent taxes from January 2012, plus 10 percent of that amount as an auctioneers fee and 5 percent of the parcels full value.
County officials have identified a couple of parcels in the towns of Greig and Osceola that could be pulled from the auction for a possible addition to county reforestation holdings, but that would require Board of Legislators approval.
Two other properties that may include underground gasoline tanks are being researched to ensure there are no outstanding environmental problems.
